console - herself

Howdy! Four years after the last Console release “Mono” it’s time for some new vivid life signs of the famous Weilheim based collective. This time the new album titled “Herself” is a bit more of a solo attempt. Due to mastermind Martin Gretschmann’s always packed calendar it’s no surprise that first drafts of „Herself“ came to life on his laptop whilst on tour with The Notwist. The final recordings then took place in his studio together with singer Miriam Osterrieder and a bunch of electronic toys. Martin Gretschmann can be called - in best sense - a creative factotum: The Notwist’s electronic wizard since 1997, as well as member of the allstar combo 13&God (a collaboration of The Notwist and the Anticon HipHoppers of Themselves). Under his alter ego Acid Pauli he does not only perform extraordinary club sets but – thinking of tracks like „Billy The Killy“ and „I See A Darkness“ – he also brought some humour onto the minimal dancefloor. “Anything goes“ – a maxim sometimes also showing up in his never ending eagerness to experiment, e.g. playing electronic music live on stage via Wii controllers. Over the years Console – in coop with Andreas Ammer - has also discovered another interesting playground: the radio play. „Herself“ is not a born-and-bred ambient album, but bristles with bright pop appeal. Gretschmann, the alchemist, synthesizes beats, sounds and samples creating melodies and atmospheres which take unpretentiously possession. Miriam Osterrieders’ voice is much more present and smelts the sentiment between pop and ambient into just wonderful songs. Verses like „the code is clear / the child is safe / we leave the nerds / inside / their caves” may reveal a little about how prudent the album is. Just not kitsch, but its complete antithesis! Console have already caused quite a stir with their releases for different labels like the major Virgin as well as for seminal indies like Payola and Matador (e.g. the Singles “14 Zero Zero“ and “Freiburg V.3.0“, the records “Rocket In The Pocket”, “Reset The Preset”). They did a live album (“Live At Centre Pompidou“), several radio plays as well as collaborations with Björk, Tocotronic and Depeche Mode. After „Mono“ (2006) and the re-release of the debut „Pan-or-ama“ the new album „Herself“ is another step in Console’s band history on Disko B. The new Console release „Herself“ will be performed live - including the whole band setup - for two exclusive shows in Munich and Berlin in late November.

shapes 10:02

On the second ‘Shapes’ compilation of 2010, Tru Thoughts label boss Rob Louis treats your ears to a whooping 30 tracks from across the label’s roster. The two disk collection includes more previously unreleased, limited and exclusive cuts than ever.

Among the exclusive tracks are Quantic’s remix of Saravah Soul; Smerin’s Anti Social Club doing a great reggae Dr Who; and Stonephace (feat. Adrian Utley from Portishead) making a psychedelic jazz monster out of a Micky Finn rave classic. New signing Maddslinky (aka Zed Bias) makes a few appearances including “Further Away”, which was voted in the Top 5 tunes of 2009 in Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide awards. CD One starts on a reggae tip with the skanky sounds of Quantic’s Flowering Inferno, Prince Fatty, Alice Russell and Lanu. It then moves into more soulful territory with a track from Nostalgia 77’s upcoming album, through to the cinematic soundscapes of Hidden Orchestra, whose debut album, “Night Walks” was “BBC1 Introducing’s” Album of the Month in Scotland.

CD Two is a little more focused on the dancefloor with Randomer’s remix of the Bamboos, AtJazz remixing Maddslinky: a couple of exclusives from Flevans and some hard beats from Benjamin One.

Belleruche - 270 Stories

There has been heavy radio support for first single “Clockwatching”, including Nemone (BBC 6Music), Huey Morgan (BBC 6Music), John Kennedy (XFM), Ross Allen (Ministry Of Sound), Craig Charles (BBC 6Music) and more. With 48,000 YouTube views and counting, it was Video Of The Week on Nemone’s daytime 6Music show and top download of the week from the Times. The band recorded a live Session for Mark Lamarr (BBC Radio 2) this year while their last album ‘The Express’ reached number 1 on iTunes Electronic chart. 270 Stories’ sees the trio hitting their stride with style, tying together all that is distinctive about their off-kilter mix-up of scratchy beats, bluesy guitar and soulful, honeycomb vocals that we know and love, with the unmistakable vibe of a band pushing forward without pretension, letting their ideas roam free and lead them to a new place.

As the Glimmers describe it: “This time there are no musicians involved. Nothing is recorded live. No guest appearances, no pop or rock stars on vocals, no hypes. This time we only serve pure discoid house beats, analogue synths, bleeps, bass and FX and a few gimmicks here and there… Play it very loud and be in a different state of mind for best results”

walkner.moestl - structures

After a decade, Uwe Walkner & Karl Moestl are reunited and once again they are defining the electronic sound with their own style. A dirty, fresh fusion of dub, electro, wonky breakbeat, dubstep, techno and garage elements come together on Structures. In 1999 and 2000, Walkner.Moestl brought us two outstanding EPs Bluish and Heaven
Or Hell on GStone; laid back dopey tracks, typified by mellow percussive ambience and featuring the talents of dub MC Sugar B. Remixes for Tosca on their massive Suzuki in Dub rework album, Planet E, Trio Electrico and Freedom Satellite followed at the height of the nu-jazz and downtempo wave that swept global stereos.
Many terrific vocalists, like Eva Klampfer, Martin Klein, Farda P., Didier Uwayo, Elle Fee and Nina are a part of this extraordinary opus called Structures. This brings organic soulful, big voices and highlights to the cool, abstract, sometimes low slung but energetic movements. After the legendary EP releases on Kruder&Dorfmeister s label, they have created another masterpiece and milestone. This is their first full album, and a journey into future electronic sound.

natural self - my heart beats: remixes and versions

Following on from the LP “My Heart Beats Like A Drum” this digital single compiles some great remixes of tracks from the album and one exclusive cover version.

First up, Prince Fatty, who has been making waves with his authentic but modern reggae and dub project, puts “Midnight Sun” through his mixing deck, drafting in his crew of veteran players to turn out a brand new piece of music (plus a heavily dubbed-out version). Pure sunshine vibes!

Next is a cover of Radiohead’s “Street Spirit”. Natural Self told us “I originally did this on a whim – it’s one of my favourite Radiohead tunes. It was going round in my head one day and I realised it actually fits with the tune that DJ Shadow sampled for “Organ Donor”. Mmm, good idea for a mash up I thought… I then immediately realised I don’t like mash ups, I’m a snob like that. So one Sunday afternoon I set about doing it over from scratch. I liked the way it came out so I played it to Tru Thoughts’ A&R Robert Luis. We decided I should give it the proper treatment so I re-played the organ, re-sang the vocal and laced the drums sampling a recording from an unreleased Broken Keys session. This is how it came out.”

Natural Self also remixes himself, turning “All Static” into one of his unique percussive dancefloor nuggets. With Brazilian and Tropical influences and some space age synth noise this is a pure modern club rocker.

Jeremy Sole provides a soulful take on “Midnight Sun”. Jeremy is a Los Angeles based DJ, radio presenter on KCRW and producer, he is a big fan of the French singer Elodie Rama who co-wrote and sings on the track and specifically asked to remix it. This mix also features the talents of trumpet player Todd Simon (who has provided horns for the likes of Mayer Hawthorne and Kanye West).

The remaining three remixers explore Natural Self’s beats and abstract instrumental grooves in their own unique ways. Kid Kanevil (First Word) shows why he has been picking up many fans with his fusion of tough drums and electronic sounds. Eliphino has just had one of his tracks licensed to Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood label and has magazines like XLR8R raving about him, he demonstrates his soulful electronic style perfectly here. Last but not least, French producer Yult asked if he could try to remix something from the album. We’re so glad he asked….Woah! This one is heavy! He took loads of parts from the original and completely twisted them, Year 3000 beats…

Make sure you check all the tracks….we definitely think there’s something on here that you’re really going to enjoy.

badboe - break the funk remixed

‘Break The Funk’, the debut album from Danish NuFunk legend BadboE shook the NuFunk scene with its seemingly effortless blend of raw funky groove, hip-hop cut & paste aesthetic, soulful vocals and slamming dancefloor-friendly breaks. Now Boe is back, and he’s brought his friends. Almost every name on the scene throws down for this remix album, from Fort Knox Five and Fuzzbox Inc. to Basement Freaks and Danny Massure. The rock solid grooves of the original album are re-grooved, remixed, stripped-down, chopped, diced, sliced and re-formed into mighty new funk bombs. As with ‘Break The Funk’ this album is a must-have for DJs across the spectrum from Breaks and NuFunk to Rare Groove and Hip-Hop.

atjazz - full circle (unreleased song & versions)

A selection of the finest unreleased songs and versions from the excellent album ‘Full Circle’. This album contains never before heard versions of ‘Parallels’, ‘I Forgot You’, ‘Together’, ‘Underlined’ & ‘With You’, not forgetting the unreleased songs ‘This and That’, ‘Short Changed’, & the epic ‘Undergrounded’. The album ‘Full Circle’ took four full years to come together from June 2004 - June 2008 and these tracks are just a handful of the finished unreleased works from that time frame. We feel this album holds many emotions from the creative processes behind the works of Atjazz leading up to the release of the album. Martin wrote these pieces around sunset and in the dark of night to create a deep and coherent collection of musical styles.
