Die Automatik schaltet einen Gang rauf. Das Seitenfenster gleitet herab, der Highway vorbei. Fahren wir heraus nach Santa Monica, lauschen dem Fahrtwind und dem Motor mit dem großen Hubraum. Und schon halten wir an: Ruhig liegt er da, der Pazifik in seiner Unendlichkeit.

Nein, ein authentisches West-Coast-Album hatten Boozoo Bajou nicht machen wollen. Als Produzenten sind sie der elektronischen Musik verpflichtet. Wenn ich mit “Grains” das Titelstück höre, bekomme ich ein nahezu ozeanisches Gefühl: Ich kann den Pazifik schon fast sehen.

“Grains” ist eine Aneignung traditioneller Stillistiken und ihrer Übersetztung in den Sound von heute. Das Folkfestival “Green Man” wurde dabei zur Inspiration. Boozoo Bajou entdeckten den “Laurel Canyon” Sound des Los Angeles der frühen Siebziger für sich, als nach der wütenden Protestbewegung der ausgehenden Sechziger Musiker wie Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, Crosby, Still and Nash es eher entspannt angehen ließen. Boozoo Bajou haben sich von diesen Einflüssen nicht einengen lassen aber das kalifornische Laid-back-Feeling hatten Sie die ganze Zeit im Hinterkopf. Es hat dem Album eine deutliche Färbung gegeben. Und so nahmen sie den Sound von früher und den Geist von heute. Das Ergebnis: Moderne Electronica, wie mann sie so lebendig, so reif kaum je gehört hat.

Wie wir bereits Anfang des Jahres meldeten, wurde beim am 15. Januar beendeten Jazzanova-Remix-Wettbewerb noch auf der Zielgeraden die Schallmauer von 400 eingegangenen Remixen durchbrochen. Da ist es nur verständlich, daß die Auswertung der eingereichten Remixe durch die vielbeschäftigten Jazzanova-Mitglieder noch etwas Zeit in Anpruch nimmt.
Jetzt erwarten alle Teilnehmer, die zahlreichen Musikfans, die schon in die fertigen Remixe reingehört haben, und wir selbst natürlich mit Spannung die Bekanntgabe des Gewinners, der bekanntlich durch Jazzanova selbst bestimmt wird.
“Wir waren von der Qualität der eingereichten Remixe mehr als überwältigt”, verriet uns Jürgen von Knoblauch stellvertretend für das Berliner DJ- und Produzentenkollektiv. “Es war für uns alle unglaublich spannend die diversen musikalischen Ansätze der Remixe zu entdecken. Mit der Zeit haben sich dann einige persönliche Lieblingsremixe abgezeichnet. Da insgesamt so viele hervorragende Einreichungen kamen, möchten wir zunächst unsere Top-Ten-Auswahl präsentieren. Wir haben uns außerdem dazu entschlossen, nicht nur einen, sondern mindestens drei der Remixe auf unserem Label Sonar Kollektiv digital zu veröffentlichen!”

Die zehn besten Remixe, unter den nun nur noch der große Gewinner ermittelt werden muß, kann man sich jetzt anhören:

Ein Weilchen darf man also noch gespannt darauf warten, wer am Ende das Rennen beim Jazzanova-Remix-Wettbewerb macht. Das Jazzanova-Team hat jedenfalls versprochen die Preisträger definitiv bis Ende Februar zu benennen - auch wenn ihnen die Auswahl sicherlich schwer fallen wird.

Head for the bunkers, because Bomb the Bass have reloaded and they’re rolling down the runway. “Black River” is the third single from Bomb the Bass’ recent album Future Chaos, and with featured vocalist Mark Lanegan on board, it’s likely to leave a swath of destruction in its wake—emotional  destruction.
In the first of three remixes that will remake that landscape in radically different ways, England’s Mercury Prize nominee Maps adds a bouncy, house-rooted beat, a judicious bit of Afro-Latin percussion and deep, chiming organ chords. It’s a neat trick, when you stop to think about it—joining the offbeat Americana of the original song with elements of Old Europe and the New World alike; what’s even more striking is the way that Maps has taken such a solitary song and made it feel like a roomful of people celebrating. From reverberant vocal harmonies to a pitter-pattering rain of detail, every inch of the tune is alive with movement and melody.
Patrice Bäumel, best known for his ultra-minimal “Roar”—a punishing, inventive DJ tool that owned floors in 2008—stays true to his reductionist principles. Preserving only Lanegan’s vocals and a single, dramatic piano chord, Bäumel crafts a lithe, rippling rhythm on hi-hats and toms, pushing it forward with a syncopated, snub-nosed bass line; pensive, open-ended chords hang in the air like a memory of Detroit. Simplicity is key: every sound holds it own, and the overall effect is less one of restraint than a profound sense of balance.
The tempo rises under the direction of remixer Gui Boratto, who recasts the material in the warm, resonant style he has brought to releases like 2007’s Chromophobia and remixes for Goldfrapp and the City of God soundtrack. Splitting the difference between minimal house and vintage New Order, skipping drums and high-necked bass melodies lock together in a lean but supple framework that foregrounds Lanegan’s lonely tale.

In a season of freezing, wet, grey weather where you might think about hibernating. Sunshine Enterprises has released a record that brings back the sunshine into your life and evokes those long hot summer nights. This is house music that takes you to new dimensions:

F021R meets Club Ibiza a Compilation composed by Enrique Domenech & Igor Marijuan

Enrique Domenech, DJ, music promoter and Fusionova021 label boss started his career as a DJ in the mid nineties, and has shared a DJ box with greats such as Carl Craig, Ben Mono, Wagon Cookin’, Richard Dorfmeister, Dublex inc., TM Juke, Biggabush, Gav Smith, Nick Matthews, etc. … On top of that, he worked for more than seven years in radio beginning as a novice at PowerFM Dublin. Right now, he is the mover and the shaker at the Fusionova021record Radioshow at Ibiza Sonica.

His sets range from sophisticated downtempo to really groovy eletrorganic beats. He has played the some of the most famous venues in Spain, Portugal, Canada, England, Sweden among other countries and participated in many festivals.

In 2005, he released his first compilation included in A Slice of Paradise, Vol.1, 5CDs limited edition boxset and named by Time Out Magazine, London, as “one of the best compilations of the year”.

“This selection is to represent future beats in present societies, I really enjoyed all the work involved in choosing tracks, and I put this ones in this way to make people love future beats in an easy listening way, increasing the intensity of the selection slowly but groovely…” he said about CD1.

Ibiza Sonica’s director and Cultura Sonica’s president Igor Marijuan represents the spirit of Ciub Ibiza Radio with the mix on CD 2. The high quality music made in Ibiza captures the relaxing atmosphere of Ibiza.
