Der kanadische ‘House-Meister’ Tiga erzählt gerne folgende Anekdote: Während er im Fitnessstudio seines Hotels in LA zum TOMBOY-Sound aus dem Ghettoblaster schwitzt, betritt Michael Douglas den Raum. Dieser ‘groovt’ ein paar Minuten zum Beat, grinst und sagt: “This music is fucking great, man!” Ihr müsst diesem Presseinfo nicht glauben, aber vertraut Michael Douglas! Movie-Star, Oscar-Gewinner und Sex Addict…er liebt den Tomboy-Sound!

TOMBOY aka Tomas Barfod – DJ, Überproduzent und Drummer der dänischen New Disco Band WhoMadeWho, hat sich mit vier Solo-Maxis auf Gomma weltweit einen Namen als einer der interessantesten Newcomer in Sachen neuer elektronischer Musik gemacht. 2006 veröffentlichte er ausserdem Platten auf Get Physical, Kitsune und Tiga’s Turbo Records.

Es wurde langsam Zeit für ein Soloalbum.

“SERIØS” enthält 14 eher ruhige, deepe, leicht abgedrehte und moderne Electro-Songs. Inspiriert von 70er Cosmic Disco, 90er ‘Warp’-Electronica und der funkigen Seite der Ravekultur.
“SERIØS” ist kein Dance-Album, obwohl es sich der Elemente des Dance-Fundus bedient. Tomboy schafft einen sehr persönlichen Sound, indem er zwar die üblichen Zutaten aktueller Clubmusik (Acidlines, Discobreaks, Raveshyntis, Drum Machines) benutzt - diese jedoch meist ungewöhnlich einsetzt. Die Drums spielt er live und bearbeitet sie im Computer.
“SERIØS” ist ein eher ruhiges, unaufgeregtes Album – jedoch weit weg von jeder ‘Chill Trip Lounge’.
Es beginnt gemächlich und enthält neben supermelodiösen Boogiesongs auch ein paar böse Rave-Disco-Bretter (das Stück “I. K. Guitar” von der Maxi “4″ wurde von der De:Bug als “heissester Rave-Hit des Sommers” gelobt). Auch wenn es von einem ‘echten’ Musiker und Studio-Wizard produziert wurde, klingt die Musik nie zu perfekt oder sauber. Im Gegenteil: es bleibt der für Gomma-Platten so typische analoge, ‘humane’ Sound.

Man kann Tomas Barfod ganz klar als eine der führenden Figuren der neuen dänischen Popkultur bezeichnen. Dänemark übernimmt in Sachen Fashion, Design und Musik ja gerade ein wenig die Rolle, die Schweden in den letzten Jahren inne hatte: der frische nördliche Quell für alles, was geschmackvollen, neuen Style betrifft. (Sogar MTV hat das gecheckt und dort seine letzen ‘MTV Music Awards’ veranstaltet).

Neben Trentemöller ist Tomas Barfod dort der nach aussen hin bekannteste Mann in Sachen Sound. Das Debütalbum seiner Band WhoMadeWho war eine der wichtigsten CDs von 2005 (”..the world’s best Discorock band besides LCD Soundsystem!” schrieb der Londoner NME, die Queens of the Stone Age coverten live gleich ihren Hit “Space For Rent” und Jesse Hughes von den Eagles Of Death Metal feiert das Album in seiner Top 3 im Visions Dez.06: “Sexy, so verdammt sexy”…). Die Band verbrachte das letzte Jahr vor allem im Tourbus: auf allen wichtigen europäischen Festivals, als Vorgruppe der großen Soulwax-Tour und sogar auf Events wie der MTV Music Awards After Show Party und der Milan Fashion Week hinterließ Barfod’s Band ein begeistertes Publikum.
Während seine Bandkollegen sich danach vom Tourstress erholten, schloß sich Barfod im Studio ein und schuf diese musikalische Perle. Wobei er für die Hälfte der CD SängerInnen ins Studio lud: Namosh, die Berliner Entdeckung Mia von Matt und die Kopenhagener Sängerin Malou.

(Übrigens: WhoMadeWho sind nicht tot, sie riechen nur leicht verschwitzt….weil sie gerade fleissig im Studio am neuen Album basteln…)

Sunny Days in it’s oroiginal version is a beautiful and awfully deep dub steppin’ tune with Mr. Melody singing about lost love. This is one of those rare tunes that will be here forever we predict. A tune that makes you feel sad yet warm at the same time. A beautiful voice over Malaki’s heavy dark black beats continuing the legacy of Pressure Drop’s “Warrior Sound”- what more could you want?
Sunny Days (Filewile version): What more? - Well, maybe something to shake up the dancefloor? Yes, this is Filewile giving us their account of things dubwise with a totally fresh approach to the classic original tune. Different beat, different bassline, same melody and vocals - this remix rolls along, building up and releasing the pressure by taking the reggae steppa on to a stomping acid style broken-beat-break-down and back again.
Knok Knok: Pressure Drop are masters of taking what seems like a mellow, restrained beat and filling it with an energy that blows you off your feet. An energy that seems to come from some secret sub bass frequency and works wonders in combination with the masterful percussion breaks and stirring melodies. As if this potion isn’t lethal enough, on this cut Pressure Drop link with Gloucester’s finest, enter Rider Shafique, who’s rhyme providing flows with a UK reggae style that is the perfect companion to Mr. Melody’s singing. Together they’ve created a song that raises the bar very high indeed and shows what’s in store for the future of reggae music.

Passion, emotion and life’s other big themes are the threads, leading through this new recording. Demandig an active listener as with previous solo projects (Seven and Storm, Rough Cuts) Parov Stelar cooperates on “Femme Fatal” with Wolf Myer and his Orchestra.
Over 30 guest - artists helped to create a fresh and vivid album that is always aware of it’s jazzy roots but definitively goes beyond any genres tight boundaries. Hip Hop meets Soul, Funk, Pop und Jazz in a perfect blend of analogue and digital. Leading the listener into a world full of intimate thoughts and capacious moments, “Femme Fatal” rejects all daily struggle and rush.

kirk de georgio joins archive with his main project as one.
having recorded for nearly 20 years for underground labels like b12, likemind, his own art and opart and more known ones like mo wax, clear, r&s, far out, planet e, ubiquity, new electronica, versatile, kirk has made his mark in electronic music already.
this new album entitled ‘planetary folklore ii’, is an imaginary follow up to the legendary ‘planetary folklore’ released back in 1997 on mo wax.
nearly ten years later and the magic is still there- this album combines electronic moments like ‘germanium’ with orchestral pieces like ‘to see with your eyes’, fractured funky chopped beats like ‘irradiant’ with peaceful ambient moments like ‘pastorale’.

“It´s hip to be square” is another typical funk track in true Innvision style. Felix Neuenhoff was invited as quest singer and contributes not only with his sonorous voice but also with the song texts. A further musical guest was brought in to remix “It´s hip to be square”. The aspiring artist “Rephrase” from the Australian label “Knowfool Records” minimized the instrumentation and has given the track an alternative and interesting touch. It need not be said that this track will undoubtedly, yet again, lead to wild and frolicsome moves on the dance floor.
“Jazzy Jester” and “Fuzzy Senor Salsa”, two further album titles on the B-side, offer another small insight into the musical creativity of Ed Royal and Enne. This EP with its three tracks gives all listeners a taster of things to come on their album “The Groove Collage”.
